Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are eyelash extensions and how are they applied?

Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent, synthetic extensions, glued one by one onto each natural lash (placed 1mm from eyelid so neither the glue nor the extension have contact with the skin). The process is used to create a beautiful, full, luscious, and long set of eyelashes. Lash extensions are applied using a specially formulated, medical grade adhesive, and they can vary in length and thickness to give you the look you desire.

Absolutely! It is of extreme importance that you choose an eyelash technician you trust. This person should have undergone training from a qualified Lash Acadamy and be certified. They should also have a gallery of their work. Misencil has a list of technicians on their website that can be searched by area.

Under 4 certified lash mastery educators, I’ve learned the proper and safe handling techniques of lash artistry. I am a graduate of Belmonda Acadamy and Misencil. I have 4 certifications of completion recognized in Canada, USA & Europe. I’m also always furthering my education through online groups, lash socials with other lash artists (organized by Sugarlash Pro), and taking further courses with other Lash Masters.

Who doesn’t wear eyelash extensions? Though eyelash extensions are newer to Canadians, they have been around for over a decade in the USA and Asia, and you no longer have to be a celebrity or model to wear or afford them. I have personally lashed three generations of a single family!

Your eyelashes have a natural life cycle (which is around 25–28 days). Each day you can lose 3–5 natural lashes, but they often go unnoticed. When eyelash extensions are applied, you are more aware of when they shed, as they are longer, darker, and thicker. If you pull hard on an extension lash, you may pull out your own natural lash with it, and you will have to wait until your new natural lash is ready to grow to take its place (pulling is forbidden). Many women have had lash extensions for years consecutively with no damage to their natural lashes.

Approximately 2–4 weeks if you respect your new lashes and take care of them. Keeping your lashes clean and using oil-free products is imperative. Your lifestyle and work environment will affect how long they last—heat, steam, and oil exposure can reduce retention. If you sleep on your stomach or on one side, you may notice uneven wear.

Touch-ups are required when some natural eyelashes (with extensions) have fallen out or the bond has weakened. To maintain a full set, schedule touch-ups every 2–3 weeks. Note: I do not accept appointments after 3 weeks.

Depending on the technician’s artistry, experience, and attention to detail, full sets and touch-ups can take 1–2 hours. The process is meticulous and should not be rushed. For clients, it’s painless, non-invasive, and relaxing—many fall asleep during the session.

  • Discontinue any eye creams 24 hours before your appointment.
  • Do not wear any eye makeup on the day of your appointment (concealer, eyeshadow, mascara, eyeliner).
  • Remove contact lenses before your appointment or bring a case to store them.

Yes! During application, a mixture of lengths and curls is used, based on your natural lashes and desired look.

Yes, you can still use eyeshadow (mineral-based products are best). Use an oil-free remover and wipe gently away from the extensions. Avoid downward wiping to prevent buildup. An aftercare kit is provided, including a lint-free gloss stick, mascara wand, and makeup remover.

Yes, but only oil-free eyeliner and mascara. Apply mascara to the tips only, not the roots. Extension-safe mascaras and eyeliners by Misencil are available on-site.

Use only a heated eyelash curler (available on-site from Sugarlash Pro). Clamp curlers are not approved. Most clients find curlers unnecessary, as extensions retain their shape naturally.

Yes, your eyelash extensions are waterproof. Avoid direct water pressure on the lashes and wear goggles when swimming. For the first 48 hours, avoid steam, hot yoga, and excess humidity. After 48 hours, all are fine.

Yes, by a certified eyelash technician using a specially formulated remover. Do not attempt self-removal; it may cause lash damage.
